Honeywell to License Aromatics Complex for Bahrain's GPIC

Honeywell Technologies has been selected by Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company to provide licensing and engineering for a new aromatics complex at Sitra in Bahrain. The facility is expected to produce about 1.2 million mt/year of paraxylene and 500,000 mt/year of benzene.

The announcement was made on October 12, 2026. The complex will use Honeywell UOP's Naphtha Hydrotreating, CCR Platforming and LDPX Aromatics Complex technologies, with Honeywell providing catalysts, adsorbents and equipment alongside licensing and engineering services.

Paraxylene and benzene are key feedstocks for plastics, polyester fibers and packaging materials. GPIC CEO Yasser A. Rahim Alabbasi said the investment strengthens production capabilities and supports long-term industrial growth.

Honeywell and GPIC have a longstanding relationship covering pressure swing adsorption technology, adsorbents and process automation at GPIC's ammonia and methanol facilities. The aromatics project extends that cooperation.

Honeywell's Mohamed Sami said the project is intended to enable efficient production of high-value petrochemicals and strengthen Bahrain's industrial base. No capital cost or schedule for the complex was disclosed in the announcement.
