Argentina's Fertil Pampa advances $720 million ammonia and urea complex

Fertil Pampa, a subsidiary of Pampa Energia, is advancing its nitrogen fertilizer complex in Bahia Blanca, Buenos Aires province, Argentina, on an 80-hectare site at the local port.

The project is part of a national trend toward fertilizer import substitution, using natural gas from Vaca Muerta and benefits under the Incentive Regime for Large Investments (RIGI).

The core ammonia plant will have capacity of 1,259,250 t/y of ammonia and 1,606,000 t/y of carbon dioxide, using KBR-licensed technology, with an estimated investment of $720 million.

The urea unit comprises two lines of about 1,050,000 t/y each, totaling 2.1 million t/y of granular urea, using NextChem technology, with an estimated $80 million investment.

Maire Tecnimont is the engineering, procurement and construction contractor. Construction is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, with production estimated to start in mid-2030.
