Arkema has commissioned a steam methane reforming (SMR) hydrogen unit at its Jarrie site in France. The unit provides hydrogen for the site's chemical production processes.
The commissioning follows a construction and startup period. SMR remains the dominant route for industrial hydrogen production, though interest in low-carbon alternatives such as electrolysis is growing.
The Jarrie site produces specialty chemicals including peroxides and other derivatives. On-site hydrogen supply improves supply security and reduces reliance on external sourcing.
