BASF has secured industrial land in Dahej, Gujarat, for a potential methylene diphenyl diisocyanate complex, according to reporting by Business Standard.
The final investment decision is subject to a feasibility study and necessary approvals, the company said.
MDI is a key raw material for polyurethane foams, insulation and adhesives. Global MDI supply is highly concentrated, with five producers accounting for around 90% of capacity.
BASF already operates major integrated sites in Asia and has been shifting capital spending toward the region as European energy costs remain high.
If approved, the Indian complex would add to the company's Asian MDI footprint and serve fast-growing regional demand for polyurethanes.
