The European Commission has raised objections to MMGs proposed acquisition of Anglo Americans nickel business. The concerns relate to access to low-carbon ferronickel, a key input for stainless steel production.
Nickel is a critical material for stainless steel and batteries. Low-carbon ferronickel is produced using cleaner energy sources and commands a premium among environmentally conscious buyers.
The objection signals continued EU scrutiny of transactions involving critical raw materials and low-carbon supply chains, even as the bloc seeks to secure domestic access to strategic materials.
