Casale announced it has completed start-up of a 450 metric tons per day weak nitric acid plant for BorsodChem MCHZ in Ostrava, Czech Republic, according to a BC Insight report dated Oct. 21, 2026. The facility achieved first nitric acid production on Sept. 30, 2026, in line with the planned project schedule.
The new plant supports BorsodChem's nitric acid requirements for its aniline production chain. Aniline is a key feedstock for MDI, which is used in polyurethane production.
The contract was awarded in 2024 on a turnkey engineering, procurement and construction basis. Casale Project, the group's Czech subsidiary, executed the project using Casale's DualPURE dual-pressure nitric acid technology.
The start-up adds nitric acid capacity in Central Europe tied to downstream polyurethane raw material production.
