thyssenkrupp Uhde has been awarded a Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) study by an affiliate of CF Industries Holdings for a proposed new urea liquor upgrade plant at CF Industries' Courtright facility in Ontario, Canada, according to an Oct. 29, 2026 report.
Subject to a positive Final Investment Decision, the project could add more than 400,000 short tons per year of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) capacity, according to CF Industries.
"By enabling greater utilization of existing CO2 resources, the Courtright project has the potential to strengthen production capacity while creating additional value from existing assets," said Nadja Håkansson, COO of thyssenkrupp Decarbon Technologies and CEO of thyssenkrupp Uhde.
The project is designed to use underutilized CO2 streams to produce DEF, a reagent used to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions from diesel engines. CF Industries operates one of North America's largest ammonia production networks.
