China sulfur prices plunge in October as Middle East supply concerns ease

China's sulfur spot market declined rapidly in October 2026. As of October 28, the transaction price for granular sulfur at Zhenjiang Port was 4,800 CNY per ton, down 2,300 CNY per ton from the end of September, a drop of 32.39%. Dafeng Port prices fell by a similar magnitude.

International prices also weakened. FOB Middle East granular sulfur fell to $765 per ton from $875 at the end of September, a decline of 12.58%, while CFR China granular sulfur dropped to $825 per ton from $965, down 14.51%.

ChemPriceHub reported that reports of multiple Middle Eastern sulfur shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz eased concerns about international supply. Traders adopted a wait-and-see approach and buyers pressed for lower prices while sellers sought to reduce inventories.

Weak autumn fertilizer demand provided no support. The industry capacity utilization rate for monoammonium phosphate was 39.94%, down 8.12 percentage points month on month, and for diammonium phosphate 43.33%, down 4.35 percentage points. Chinese port sulfur inventory stood at 1,125,100 tons, up 20.09% month on month.
