Dye intermediate H-acid quotes suspended as Chinese disperse dye prices surge

Dye intermediate H-acid quotes suspended as Chinese disperse dye prices surge

On Oct. 17, Tianjin Yadong Longxing International Trade (Yadong Group) announced that it would suspend price quotations for H-acid from that date, with no date set for resumption. H-acid is a core intermediate for reactive and acid dyes and a key raw material in the dye supply chain.

H-acid prices had already risen to RMB 200,000 per tonne in September, according to industry data. The suspension was not a direct price increase, but it triggered market concern because it removed a common price reference and raised expectations of tighter spot supply. Possible reasons cited by industry participants include plant maintenance, environmental controls limiting supply, and companies holding back volumes to support prices; no specific reason was disclosed.

On the same day, Jiangsu Yabang Dyestuff issued a price adjustment notice raising prices on multiple disperse dye products, citing sharp increases in upstream raw material costs. Disperse Blue 60 dry powder was raised to RMB 300 per kilogram, equivalent to RMB 300,000 per tonne, a notably large increase. Other grades, including disperse red and yellow products, were also raised.

The increases put pressure on mid-stream dyeing and printing enterprises, which face weak end demand and limited ability to pass costs downstream. Industry analysts said the volatility could accelerate capacity consolidation, with low-margin producers most exposed.
