ECHA CHEM adds batteries restriction list and OEL substance evaluations

ECHA expanded its public chemicals database with a Batteries restriction list and occupational exposure limit substance evaluations, published October 5, 2026.

ECHA CHEM adds batteries restriction list and OEL substance evaluations

The Batteries restriction list consolidates restrictions on substances in batteries established under the EU Batteries Regulation, giving manufacturers, importers and supply-chain actors a central point of access to regulatory information.
Under the Batteries Regulation, ECHA supports the European Commission in assessing substances used in battery manufacturing or present in batteries placed on the market. Where risks are not adequately controlled, the Commission can request a restriction proposal.
The restriction process mirrors REACH, including scientific opinions from ECHA's Committees for Risk Assessment and Socio-economic Analysis, stakeholder consultation and adoption by the Commission.
Information on occupational exposure limit substance evaluations has also been migrated from ECHA's website to ECHA CHEM. OELs are health-based limits intended to protect workers from hazardous chemicals in the workplace, and ECHA prepares scientific reports for its Risk Assessment Committee.
The update does not introduce new legal obligations but makes existing regulatory information easier to access.
