Eli Lilly has broken ground on a $6.5 billion active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing site in Houston. The facility will produce APIs for Lillys pharmaceutical portfolio.
The site will use machine learning, AI and digitally integrated systems for API and advanced therapeutics manufacturing. API production is a critical upstream step in the pharmaceutical supply chain, and Lillys investment reflects efforts to expand domestic manufacturing capacity.
The project is one of the largest pharmaceutical manufacturing investments in the United States in recent years, driven by supply chain resilience considerations and growth in Lillys product pipeline.
