European Union sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) supply in 2025 surpassed the target set under the ReFuelEU Aviation regulation. The milestone indicates that supply chains are scaling ahead of mandated blending requirements.
The ReFuelEU initiative sets increasing minimum shares of SAF at EU airports, driving investment in production capacity. Producers including OMV Petrom, SkyNRG and others are advancing projects to meet future demand.
Stronger-than-expected supply in the early years of the mandate provides a foundation for project developers and gives airlines confidence that compliance volumes will be available. However, longer-term targets require significantly larger volumes and continued investment in feedstock supply and conversion capacity.
