Adperma, a subsidiary of Haldia Petrochemicals, officially commissioned a phenol and acetone production plant at Haldia, West Bengal, on 15 October 2026. The facility represents a total investment of 60 billion rupees.
The plant has annual capacity of 345,000 tonnes of phenol and 215,000 tonnes of acetone, making it the largest facility of its kind in India and the first phenol plant on India's east coast.
The project was licensed by Lummus Technology and is integrated with Haldia Petrochemicals' existing petrochemical complex, using propylene and benzene as feedstock.
The startup is expected to reduce India's import dependence for these products, strengthen domestic chemical supply capability and support downstream manufacturing. It is also expected to attract local investment and create jobs.
Phenol and acetone are intermediates used in polycarbonate, epoxy resins, solvents and other downstream products.
