Honeywell Technologies announced on October 12, 2026, that it was selected by Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company to provide licensing and engineering services for a new aromatics complex at GPIC's existing industrial complex in Sitra, Bahrain.
The facility is expected to produce approximately 1.2 million metric tons of paraxylene and 500,000 metric tons of benzene annually. These are key petrochemical feedstocks used in plastics, polyester fibres and packaging materials.
The project will use Honeywell Technologies UOP's Naphtha Hydrotreating, CCR Platforming and LDPX Aromatics Complex technologies. UOP will also supply catalysts, adsorbents and equipment as part of its scope.
"By collaborating with Honeywell Technologies UOP on this new aromatics complex, we are investing in world-class technologies that will strengthen our production capabilities," said GPIC CEO Yasser A. Rahim Alabbasi.
Honeywell and GPIC have an established relationship, including previous collaborations involving pressure swing adsorption technology, adsorbents and process automation at GPIC's ammonia and methanol facilities.
