Hunan Petrochemical's 170,000 mt/y epoxy resin unit completed full-process commissioning and produced qualified product on its first startup, according to a report dated Oct. 16, 2026. Construction began in June 2024, and the project overcame tight schedules, complex processes and high technical standards to achieve first-time successful startup.
The unit applies several core patented technologies developed in-house by Hunan Petrochemical, covering five advanced production processes: liquid epoxy resin, waterborne epoxy resin, hydrogenated bisphenol-A epoxy resin, epoxy resin composites and wastewater wet oxidation. The company said this gives it independent control of core processes and breaks through technical barriers in high-end resin production.
Hunan Petrochemical said the unit is now running smoothly and stably, with process parameters, safety indicators and product performance under control. Monitoring showed the unit's wastewater total organic carbon averages only 50% of comparable units, hydrolyzable chlorine content in product is halved at equivalent formulation ratios, and product color is improved by more than 30% versus comparable industry products.
The startup adds domestic Chinese capacity in higher-value epoxy resin grades at a time when the country is expanding self-sufficiency in specialty chemicals.
