INEOS is marking 10 years of US ethane supply to its Grangemouth petrochemical site in Scotland. The company has been importing ethane from the United States to feed its cracker at the site.
The US ethane supply arrangement was developed to provide competitive feedstock to Grangemouth amid declining North Sea gas liquids availability. Ethane is shipped across the Atlantic in specially designed vessels.
The anniversary highlights the importance of feedstock logistics in maintaining European petrochemical competitiveness, even as other plants in the region face closure due to energy and feedstock cost disadvantages.
