Lanhua Sci-Tech Fully Halts Three Coal Chemical Subsidiaries for Process Upgrade

Shanxi Lanhua Sci-Tech Venture halted production at three coal chemical subsidiaries from mid-August 2026 to eliminate outdated fixed-bed intermittent coal gasification technology and replace it with a new pressurized gasification project.

Lanhua Sci-Tech Fully Halts Three Coal Chemical Subsidiaries for Process Upgrade

Shanxi Lanhua Sci-Tech Venture (Lanhua Sci-Tech) fully halted production at three coal chemical production entities—Lanhua Coal Chemical, the Chemical Branch, and Lanhua Clean Energy—starting in mid-August 2026. The shutdown was not a routine maintenance event but a response to national industrial policy requiring the elimination of outdated fixed-bed intermittent coal gasification technology.

The three entities had combined capacity of 260,000 tonnes per year of synthetic ammonia, 560,000 tonnes per year of urea, 230,000 tonnes per year of methanol, and 100,000 tonnes per year of dimethyl ether. All capacity will be replaced by a new energy-saving and environmental upgrade project with total investment of 3.962 billion yuan.

The new project uses pressurized continuous gasification technology and will produce 490,000 tonnes per year of synthetic ammonia, 560,000 tonnes per year of urea, 94,400 tonnes per year of LNG, and 56,000 tonnes per year of 98% sulfuric acid upon completion. The project was scheduled for mechanical completion on August 31, 2026, with commissioning targeted by the end of 2026.
