Malaysia PVC Buyers Resist November Offers as Weak Demand Outweighs Cost Pressure

Malaysia's import PVC market opened November shipment negotiations cautiously, with Southeast Asian producers holding initial offers largely steady to marginally softer. New regional offers nonetheless remained above last month's concluded deal levels.

A major Taiwanese producer implemented a fourth consecutive price hike, and Chinese ethylene-based quotations firmed, but subdued downstream demand kept buyers on the sidelines and fresh transactions had yet to materialize.

In the Chinese ethylene-based PVC segment, offers rose on higher freight and upstream ethylene costs despite lacklustre demand, giving sellers room to pass through cost pressure while maintaining a price advantage over Southeast Asian material.

Whether suppliers concede to bid levels or hold firm will set the directional tone for the month ahead. Market participants are watching crude oil trends and downstream operating rates for guidance.
