MOL Group inaugurated its first biomethane plant in Szarvas, Hungary, on 14 October 2026.
The investment of more than HUF 2.7 billion (around USD 8.3 million) allows the facility to produce biomethane from biogas at a purity suitable for injection into the national natural gas network.
The facility processes more than 40,000 tonnes per year of waste from the region's meat industry, plus an additional 53,000 t/yr of residual waste from neighbouring livestock and meat-processing facilities.
About 18,000 tonnes of agricultural substrate is also used as feedstock for biogas production.
The plant adds a renewable gas source to MOL's energy portfolio and supports regional waste valorisation.
