Wanhua Chemical's unit began maintenance on August 10, Taiwan Prosperity Chemical Corporation's Ningbo unit was shut, Shandong Fuyu Chemical scheduled maintenance, Shanghai Sinopec Gaoqiao's unit restarted on August 19, and Longjiang Chemical's unit restarted in early August. Moiwei Chemical's Shanghai unit scheduled maintenance for late August.
The concentrated phenol/acetone maintenance coincided with BPA turnarounds, creating overlapping supply constraints across the phenol-acetone-BPA chain. Phenol and acetone are also used in epoxy resins, methyl methacrylate and solvents, so the turnarounds affected multiple downstream markets simultaneously.
