OMV Petrom has committed EUR 560 million to build a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) production unit at its Petrobrazi refinery in Romania. The unit will produce low-carbon fuels from renewable feedstocks.
The investment reflects the growing demand for SAF driven by European aviation mandates and for HVO as a drop-in diesel replacement. OMV Petrom is integrating the unit with existing refinery infrastructure and green hydrogen supply.
The project is part of OMV Petrom's broader strategy to diversify beyond conventional fuels and reduce the carbon intensity of its product portfolio.
