Sasol International Chemicals announced on Oct. 30, 2026 that its previously idled ISOSIV paraffin production unit in Augusta, Italy, has reached beneficial operation. The unit produces normal paraffin, a critical feedstock for DETAL linear alkylbenzene (LAB) and linear alkyl sulfonate (LAS), used in household cleaning products and laundry detergents.
In April 2026, Sasol declared force majeure on DETAL LAB, LAS and downstream derivatives based on DETAL LAB, citing geopolitical tensions affecting its Italy and Germany sites. With the Augusta unit running again and supply reliability improving, Sasol said it is lifting the restriction.
"This restart reinforces the strategic value of our regional manufacturing footprint and enhances our ability to support customers in key markets," said Antje Gerber, executive vice president of Sasol International Chemicals. Omar Espinosa, senior VP of commercial, said the added capacity strengthens supply continuity across the company's asset base.
The company had said in July 2026 it intended to restart the mothballed plant before the end of 2026 amid tightening global supply of n-paraffin and LAB.
