Sasol restarts idled n-paraffin unit in Italy, lifts force majeure

Sasol Ltd. announced the start of beneficial operation at its previously idled normal paraffin production unit in Augusta, Italy. The unit produces n-paraffin, a key feedstock for DETAL linear alkylbenzene (LAB) and linear alkyl sulfonate (LAS), used in household cleaners and laundry detergents.

In April, Sasol declared force majeure on LAB, LAS and related products, citing geopolitical tensions affecting its sites in Italy and Germany. With the Augusta unit running again, the company said supply is more reliable and it is lifting the restriction.

Antje Gerber, Executive Vice President of Sasol International Chemicals, said the restart reinforces the strategic value of the regional manufacturing footprint and reflects a disciplined, market-based decision aligned with current demand.

Omar Espinosa, Senior Vice President of Commercial, said the added n-paraffin capacity strengthens the company's global manufacturing footprint and supports supply continuity.

Sasol said the additional capacity also increases its ability to supply chemicals for cleaning and personal care products.
