Shell approves final investment decision for LNG Canada Phase 2

Shell has approved the final investment decision for Phase 2 of the LNG Canada project in Kitimat, British Columbia. The expansion adds liquefaction and export capacity to the existing Phase 1 development.

LNG Canada is a joint venture involving Shell, Petronas, PetroChina, Mitsubishi and KOGAS. The project sources natural gas from western Canada and exports LNG to Asian markets.

Phase 2 approval reflects continued demand for LNG from Asian buyers and confidence in the long-term competitiveness of Canadian gas supply, despite environmental opposition and cost pressures affecting major energy projects.
