Shell in 'deep discussions' with bidders over US chemicals deal

Shell PLC is in "deep discussions" over a potential transaction related to its US chemicals portfolio, CEO Wael Sawan said during the company's third-quarter earnings call on Oct. 29, 2026.

"We are in deep discussions. I won't comment on who and what at this stage, other than to say we..." Sawan said, according to a Chemweek report published Oct. 30.

Separately, North American chemical rail traffic remained strong relative to the long-term average, with gains in Canada offsetting a softening trend in the US, according to Association of American Railroads data. During the week ended Oct. 24, chemical rail volumes were up 3.9% year over year.
