Solvay has launched a new cleaning solvent, Solsys Care Max, which the company describes as a readily biodegradable, oxygenated solvent that does not contain volatile organic compounds and can boost cleaning performance for laundry done in short, cold-water cycles.
The solvent also has applications in hard-surface cleaners. It is part of Solvay's Solsys product line, which includes ketone and ester solvents for the coatings, adhesives and sealants market.
Solvay did not disclose the chemical identity of the product. In a press release, the company said that by reducing wash temperatures and cycle times, the product addresses the largest environmental impacts of doing laundry.
The launch reflects growing demand for low-VOC, biodegradable solvents as formulators respond to consumer and regulatory pressure on cleaning product emissions.
