Sunfire began construction of a high-efficiency solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) test facility at BASF's Schwarzheide site in Germany, according to a weekly industry roundup. The facility will validate high-efficiency electrolysis for green hydrogen production.
The project is part of broader decarbonization efforts in the European chemical industry, where hydrogen is viewed as a key feedstock and energy carrier for reducing emissions from ammonia, methanol and refining operations. BASF has been developing electrolysis technologies at its Schwarzheide site as part of its low-carbon technology portfolio.
