Verbio announced on Oct. 6 that it has commissioned a nearly €100 million industrial-scale plant at Bitterfeld-Wolfen, Germany, that will produce renewable chemical building blocks from rapeseed methyl ester, extending the biofuels producer's business into higher-value chemicals.
The plant marks a move by Verbio from fuels into specialty and intermediate chemicals derived from renewable feedstocks.
The commissioning was reported by Chemical Week on Oct. 9. Verbio said the facility is an industrial-scale operation rather than a demonstration unit.
