Verbio Starts Up Biobased Specialty Chemicals Plant in Bitterfeld

Verbio SE announced a new plant in Bitterfeld, Germany, which started operations in early October 2026. The facility expands Verbio's product range with biobased specialty chemicals and has an annual production capacity of up to 60,000 tonnes, according to a company announcement reported on Oct. 16.

The chemicals can replace fossil feedstocks used in the production of lubricants, plastics, detergents and cleaning products, positioning Verbio in the growing market for bio-based chemical intermediates.

Verbio is a Germany-based company active in the bioenergy sector and has been expanding into higher-value biobased products alongside its core biofuels business.

The Bitterfeld site launch comes as European chemical producers increasingly invest in bio-based and renewable-carbon feedstocks to meet sustainability targets and customer demand for lower-carbon materials.
