OCP Group, the worldu2019s largest phosphate fertilizer exporter from Morocco, warned last month that the sharp rise in sulfur prices is negatively affecting its production. The company said it cannot pass the cost increase to farmers who are already under enormous financial pressure. OCP is trying to adjust its product mix toward fertilizer grades that consume less sulfur and accelerate development of alternative raw material sources not dependent on oil and gas. Sulfur prices have risen nearly tenfold to around $1,000 per ton.
