SABIC Agri-Nutrients announced board approval of the final investment decision for its seventh project and awarded the engineering, procurement and construction contract to Samsung E&A. The contract value is approximately $3.47 billion.
The complex includes a 1.2 million t/y ammonia plant using KBR technology, two urea plants with combined capacity of 2.6 million t/y using Stamicarbon and thyssenkrupp Uhde Fertilizer Technology, and a carbon capture unit using Shell technology.
Urea capacity will increase from 4.8 million t/y to 7.4 million t/y, a 54% rise. Construction is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Commissioning is expected to start in the third quarter of 2030 and last about four months, with commercial production and project completion in the fourth quarter of 2030.
SABIC AN CEO Fahad Al-Battar said the project is a key pillar of the company's 2040 growth strategy and supports its carbon neutrality targets and Saudi Vision 2030. SABIC said it will assess financing options including loans and cash flow.
