China Energy Engineering Group began construction on the second phase of its integrated green hydrogen, ammonia and methanol project in Songyuan, Jilin province, on October 20, 2026.
The total investment is 10.83 billion yuan (about $1.62 billion), and the expansion will lift the facility's green ammonia capacity to 600,000 tons/year.
Phase II doubles renewable energy capacity to 1,600 MW. By optimizing designs and using upgraded domestic equipment, the project reduces the unit production cost of green ammonia by more than 10% compared with Phase I.
Phase I started operations in December and its green ammonia was used in the world's first ship-to-ship bunkering of green ammonia fuel in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province, earlier this month.
The project uses dynamic coupling technology to match fluctuating wind and solar power with the continuous demands of chemical production.
