MOL Group inaugurated its first biomethane plant in Szarvas, Hungary, on October 14, 2026, with an investment of more than HUF 2.7 billion (about $8.3 million).
The facility can produce biomethane from biogas at a purity suitable for injection into the national natural gas network.
The plant processes more than 40,000 metric tons/year of waste from the region's meat industry, plus an additional 53,000 metric tons/year of residual waste from neighboring livestock and meat-processing facilities.
About 18,000 metric tons/year of agricultural substrate is also used as feedstock for biogas production.
The project supports MOL's diversification into low-carbon energy and waste valorization.
