AkzoNobel invests $60m in North American powder coatings capacity

AkzoNobel is investing $60 million to expand powder coatings production at three North American locations: Reading and Warsaw in the United States and Monterrey in Mexico.

The investment was reported in chemXplore's weekly project tracker published on 4 November 2026.

Powder coatings are solvent-free and increasingly favoured for architectural, industrial and automotive applications as formulators shift away from solvent-borne systems.

The move expands AkzoNobel's regional supply capability in North America, where coatings demand is tied to construction and manufacturing activity.

The same weekly tracker also noted Evonik's €52 million silicones plant in Essen and Eastman's $375 million DOE recycling award.
