Syensqo closed C6O4 fluorosurfactant production at its Spinetta Marengo site in Italy, effective 28 October 2026, according to chemXplore's weekly project tracker of 4 November 2026.
C6O4 was developed as a replacement for long-chain PFAS and used as a polymerisation aid in fluoropolymer production.
The closure was recorded as a completed milestone in the week's plant tracker.
The move comes amid tightening European scrutiny of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, including restrictions proposed under REACH and pressure from Italian authorities over local contamination.
Syensqo reported third-quarter 2026 net sales of €1.59 billion, with underlying EBITDA of €320 million, up 3% sequentially.
